About Dhamma Ujjala

Residential Vipassana courses in this tradition have been held in the Adelaide area since the mid 1980s in rented facilities. Courses are currently held at Camp Ankara, Walker Flat, South Australia; on the Murray River north of Mannum.

Over time the old students (meditators who have completed at least one 10 day course in this technique) formed the South Australian Vipassana Meditation Association in 1998.

Dhamma Ujjala which means “Bright or Blazing Dhamma” was purchased in December 2008. It is located in the pristine Clare Valley one and three quarter hours north of Adelaide.

The Centre land is a 23.6 hectare (58 acres) near square block. The land is hilly with great views to the West. The area is very quiet and secluded and 3 km from Clare township. There are two small dams onsite and power to the property boundary. The main vegetation is gum trees and grassy areas and wildlife abounds.

There are no buildings on the land, however the SA Vipassana Trust's development application was successful in March 2015. The initial plans include:

  • a meditation hall for 30 students
  • ablution blocks
  • access road/carpark and
  • power on site.
