In the majestic Blue Mountains just 90 minutes west from Sydney, Kunsang Yeshe provides a range of activities for all ages, whether you are Buddhist or not. We create opportunities to develop peace of mind and a good heart through authentic Tibetan Buddhist teachings, meditation, art, interaction and connecting with community. We invite you to visit with us to enjoy our peaceful environment within the world heritage listed mountain surroundings.

About Us

Mission Statement

Our mission is to offer a supportive environment where everyone can discover their potential to be kinder, wiser & happier people, creating better lives for themselves and a better world for others.

We rely on the principles of Tibetan Buddhism, meditation and creativity as tools for exploration and transformation, helping you to become the person you want to be.

While You’re Here

The centre has been operating in the mountains at various locations for over 20 years. As a registered Not for Profit Incorporated Association we’re completely run by volunteers – including our six Executive Board members who live locally and offer their professional skills in guiding the direction and development of the centre so you can enjoy what we have to offer.

At our beautiful location in Medlow Bath we hold regular classes, workshops and day retreats but are unable to offer visitor accommodation. Our vision plan is to build a residential retreat centre with accommodation so that you can make the most of retreating from the busyness of life and discover real inner peace & balance.

In order to create that perfect external environment we ask our visitors to act mindfully:

  • act without physically harming any living being – all creatures great & small
  • take what is freely offered, leave behind what isn’t
  • speak with honesty & integrity
  • engage lovingly not sexually
  • keep body & mind free from substances which affects perceptions

We want you to experience self-discovery and transformation of heart & mind.

Vision Statement

To build a retreat centre with accommodation where everyone is able to explore and discover their potential in creating happier lives and an harmonious world for themselves and others.

That future centre property vision includes:

  • resident accommodation for monastics and staff
  • visitor accommodation
  • meditation retreats
  • creative youth programs
  • workshops & conferences
  • performance & art space
  • annual community events
  • vegetarian café
  • vegetable gardens
  • plus more

Our project plans will bring benefit to our local Blue Mountains community and to all our visitors from near and afar. We’ll create a safe, cohesive and supportive environment where everyone, regardless of age, gender or beliefs can experience a sense of connection with themselves, the environment and each other.

Our Nuns

Centre Director: Venerable Tencho

Venerable Tencho

Ven. Tencho, ordained as a Buddhist Nun in 1998, was invited to join Kunsang Yeshe Retreat Centre in 2009. She has completed 6 years of formal Buddhist Philosophy study at Chenrezig Institute in Queensland and also has a foundation of teaching Buddhism and leading meditation retreats, both in Australia and overseas.

Ven. Tencho is currently in the role of Director of Kunsang Yeshe Retreat Centre and is delighted to offer the Blue Mountains community a peaceful environment to explore the ancient wisdom of Buddhist concepts in a modern context.

Meditation Facilitator: Venerable Paldrön

Venerable Paldron

Venerable Paldron brings her experience of Dharma practice which began in the mid 1970’s when she & her 3 children moved to a Thai Forest monastery in NSW – Wat Buddha Dhamma, as part of the lay community, supporting Western monks & nuns and receiving teachings from Burmese Sayadaws & Thai Ajahns . During that time she made several self-retreats.

With an interest to experience different aspects of Dharma she lived some time in a Dzogchen community in Italy before finding her teacher, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and taking ordination in 1999. After ordination she lived at Chenrezig nuns’ community before travelling to Mexico as a resident teacher.

Venerable Paldron offers regular weekly meditation classes and monthly one day retreats at KYRC, integrating many years of Dharma teachings & practice with the emphasis on developing clarity & awareness.
